Israel: At war with an image

For many Americans, the mention of Israel conjures up a strange amalgam of images, a mixture of historical sites, places of incredible religious significance, and yes, war. The wars, the suicide bombings, the histories, and the religious sites of Israel are all old news to us. The things we don’t know are what lure us to a place, and lured I was. Green without the Extreme

These days, eco-backpackers are a dime a dozen and you’ll run into them at just about any hostel in the world. Bitter About Blake

The program was short and sweet. We were going to spend one month studying the radical literature of 1790s London while actually living within a few blocks of where it all happened. The program’s focus was on William Blake, an enigmatic poet and engraver whose complex system of metaphors and images made his work nearly indecipherable, even to well-trained scholars. 50 Years of Indie

As the clock ticked towards midnight on August 30st, 2007, the people of Kuala Lumpur streamed into Merdeka Square, filling the entire area beyond capacity. The all the trains heading towards Kuala Lumpur City Center were packed with wall to wall people and the lines at the station ticket counters were confusing mobs, spilling into the station corridors.
